EDF 5 - DLC 2 - 12 - The Last Stand 1 - Air Raider's Special runs

One of the more interesting aspects of Sandlot's EDF games is thinking of a different strategy to solve an interesting mission. It's so unique that the game is developed in a way that enables this.

There are several constraints and things you need to know and take into consideration before tackling this mission in any special way.

So read this:

- goldies are deadly and can one-shot you at 10k armor. They're prone to either rush or sneak on you. There are many times a sneaky gold arrives at you when you're not expecting it, and usually, it ends badly

- hitting any spawner (pylon or hive) will aggro all enemies from the 2 nearby spawners. So if you hit any goldies pylon, the bees and silvers from the nearest hives, if they're still up, will home on you. Due to how large their walk-around paths can be, it's not unusual for enemies from spawners further away to aggro too

- hitting enemies around a spawner may or not aggro enemies from other spawners

- on offline Inferno any hit from a multiple launcher frog blast is 1271 damage, and you can even be projected with a blast to the next; so any hit from them it's instadeath below that armor. This is very, very easy to happen. There are 5 of these frogs if they're all shooting at you it can be a nightmare. Of the frogs, 3 will drop in a single group in your back right near the goldies pylon, the other 2 on 2 groups near the opposite goldies pylon. This was the main reason for the 2k armor

- there's a positive side to the multiple launcher frogs in that they will likely clean up the outside map of buildings, enabling you to jump backward without issues of getting stuck at the wrong place. Use Nyx explosion carefully to get rid of the last few buildings.

- Red Queen Bee, Silver King Spider and Golden Queen Ant can one-shot you at 2k armor, or in 1 or 2 secs, so don't play with these, you'll regret it

- frogs have an awfully big aggroing radius on this mission, and it's usual to aggro several groups by just targeting one. You'll surely also aggro all frogs groups near a spawner if you hit it

- sadly hitting a spawner by accident isn't unusual, particularly while targeting red bees

- besides the outside road, hitting any enemy further inside the map can aggro all enemies from spawners nearby. It's very usual to aggro more goldies and silvers while shooting bees that are flying on inner areas of the map, and it can be a mess

- if one of the bee hives is still up it's usually suicide to hit ANY enemy near it, all reds and other enemies will aggro on you

- Nyx Assault is not perfect, and even dangerous. It's dead easy to do serious self-damage to the Nyx with the explosive weapon. And the range of the explosive weapon is miserable. And its machine guns have damage fall off, so they only do decent damage at close range.

- it is advisable to drop Nyxes at only one point to avoid making a mistake about which is the next Nyx you should use. It's remarkably easy to get into the wrong one and just be blown to pieces in a few seconds after you summoned a new one. Nyx health is the least of your issues

- although it's nice to advance toward frogs and giant enemies with the Nyx and crush them, beware the silvers and goldies can and will crush the Nyx in an instant while you're killing the frog(s) or giants, and there's likely a bazillion of them following the big ones . So before making a dumb and bold move, think. Usually, avoid this and play safe.

-whenever necessary jump around the map ignoring all enemies, for instance, to wait for the drop of a new Nyx and switch to it.

- whenever necessary wait in a corner for enemies to aggro to that point so that other ones areas will be safer and without them

- exiting the Nyx for anything is always an adventure that can end in death. Even if you stay between the Nyx legs which can minimize happenings, all enemies on this mission can hit you easily. Red bees and sneaky goldies are deadly accurate

- Nyx Assault has a huge tendency to skid at the end of a jump and take a long time to stop, so be careful when you exit it after a jump or you can have a nasty surprise

Bombers only run

This one worked remarkably fast and well.

The weapons I used were the level 112 Nyx Assault, the 106 KM6 X18, the 86 KM6 Z4 and the 102 Phobos J Cluster Bombs.

Nyx Assault is required, because sadly Red Guard is too slow and its weapons wouldn't work well here. Phobos J Cluster Bombs is required because it's the only decent bomber attack that can destroy the goldies pylons, otherwise you would have to use the Nyx and it's very hard to do that, believe me, I tried. Once I tested that Jcluster would work on the goldies pylons and would likely even destroy it with one attack, I knew this run would be easier than I thought. KM6 Z4 is very underpowered but works well on hives, and it has little the advantage of needing few points. KM6 X18 is great, but has steep points requirements and it's mighty easy to hit the hives you don't want with it due to its huge hit area. But these 3 are the ones that work best.

The usual Phobos 4 is not a good option, since it cant hit goldies pylons and you need both KM6s to survive initially.

The main issue with a bomber attacks only set of weapons is that these require points. Your best source of points in this mission are silver spiders, so keeping a silver's hive until the end is a SMART choice. Try not to destroy one of them, although the 3 bomber attacks you'll be using have a huge attack area and accidents can happen.

Neither Z4 or X18 will NOT hit the goldies pylon. So you can use them over it without issues.

JCluster, Z4 and X18 have different coming timings. Jcluster takes a long time, X18 is very fast. Always consider this.

The mission flow is remarkably easy.

At the start go up left. Use Jcluster bombs to try to kill goldies (DON'T destroy the goldies pylon), use Z4 on the upper bees hive and use X18 for the goldies. Use then wisely Z4, Jcluster and X18 on bees and goldies onslaught. You should be able to summon a Nyx by destroying the hive, but surviving until it arrives is very lucky-prone and there's nothing you can do more with this loadout.

If you get the Nyx and manage to enter it, zip away toward the destroyed bees hive. Kill all bees when possible, and try to get a new Nyx as yours will likely be almost trashed and a refill of the 3 bomber attacks.

When possible use Jcluster on the back right goldies pylon and Z4 on the remaining bees hive. Save X18 for the incoming bees, but use it BEFORE frogs drop from their transports. This will be a 2 in one, something that no other class can achieve. Even if you hit Jcluster on the goldies pylon, its destruction is not guaranteed (it worked on my run, yay!!!).

Do another walkaround the map, and use Jclusters and X18 on the group of 3 multiple launcher frogs, which should be near where the goldies pylon was). It's difficult that they will die, but with some luck they will suffer some damage. Likely all frogs will aggro to you, the main issue will be from now the up to 5 multiple launcher frogs.

If you make a mistake like I did you'll trigger the next wave of 6 giant enemies. My mistake was taking down a silvers hive by accident. On this case ASAP destroy the Red Queen Bee. She will die with a X18 attack centered on her. The normal Queen Bee can be easily killed with Nyx's machine gun. The other 4 giant enemies you probably won't even see, they will die with bomber attacks.

Once the 2 Queen bees are dead, get rid of the other goldies pylon. Again, leave the silvers hive for last.

The biggest PITA is getting rid of all the multiple plasma launcher frogs. They're remarkably accurate and fast.

Sadly you must use some time to aim the bomber attacks or else they're useless. Remember you'll get zero points if nothing dies with your attack.

Frogs do like taking a path near where the back goldies pylon was, so try to hit them when they're passing by that area. It's very rare that they will go to the map's outside roads, but can happen.

I knew this would work and be fun, but this well I wasn't expecting. With a lot of luck and more concentration, I think a run around the 30 minutes mark is possible.

Turrets only run

This one took some time to figure out how to make it work. The biggest problem was the goldies pylons, as these required some study for the best position of the ZE Blaster turrets.

The weapons I used were the level 112 Nyx Assault, the 111 ZE Blaster, the 88 FZ-GUN MX and the 79 ZEXR-GUN.

As with the previous run, Nyx Assault is required. FZ-GUN MX is good for the time it lasts, and for stunning enemies. ZEXR is the always versatile and best overall turret. ZE Blaster is the only turret that can hit the goldies pylons, but beware that it has a very long range and that can cause troubles. Actually, ZEX Launcher probably could too, but it's too unreliable and dangerous for general use.

Turrets are not 100% reliable. You can install them easily in the wrong place, either an environment object that will likely be destroyed by the turret and consequently destroy the turret too, or in an awkward spot and will hit nothing good.

The mission flow is more troublesome and unreliable than the previous one.

Start by farming points for a Nyx, by killing goldies, which are the easiest enemies for that purpose.

When you have one, go near the bees hive, destroying the bridge on the way. Install ZE Blaster and FZ-GUN MX in a way to destroy the hive. FZ-GUN MX has a very short range. Install ZEXRs on Nyx so they can easily kill bees while you jump, since aiming the Nyx machine guns while jumping isn't very easy.

When all bees are gone, do the same to the next bees hive. Disable ZE-Blaster as soon as the hive is gone to avoid aggroing the incoming Frogs.

Next is handling the back right Goldies pylon. See the video for the best positioning for the ZE Blaster turrets. Install them in the area I do it, along with 2 ZEXRs. Destroy nearby buildings, go away, trigger ZEXRs, trigger ZE Blaster later. For some reason, ZE Blaster will only target the pylon if it has no enemies on its range. So the ZEXR is activated earlier to aggro goldies, and ZE Blaster will likely hit the pylon because no enemies will be near them.

This will surely aggro many frogs, including the 3 multiple launcher ones near that pylon.

Pylon destruction is not guaranteed, I had a run I needed to use ZE Blaster 6 times for a pylon to be destroyed, but one may be enough if all goes well.

From this point on only install 2 turrets at a time when extiting Nyx, if you try to install 4 usually you get hit by multiple launcher frogs blasts.

To destroy frogs, install ZE Blasters in roughly the same area you used for the goldies pylon, and activate them when silvers and goldies have passed by that area. Frogs usually come later and by inner roads, so there's a good chance to hit them that way.

At some point you'll have to go aggro the 2 other remaining multiple plasma launcher frogs that are near the other Goldies pylon. Beware what you do, I almost had my Nyx crushed by nearby ants and silvers, just annoy them and zip away. Also don't make a stupid move like I did, on EDF 5 FZ-GUNs installed on vehicles likely destroy it. Oh boy... 😂😂😂😂

You should not proceed with the destruction of any other spawner until you kill all frogs. Once you killed them, go for the front right silvers hive. You'll need ZE Blaster, but disable it as soon as the hive is gone to avoid aggroing any of the incoming giants.

Kill all aggroed goldies and silvers.

Now go for the Red Giant Bee. ZE Blaster can kill it or not, but complement it with ZEXRs installed on the Nyx and its machine gun. Crush any other incoming giants with turrets and Nyx.

Go for the last Goldies pylon in the same way as the first, the normal Giant Bee is easy to kill with Nyx's machine gun. Silver King  Spider and Golden Queen Ant are easy to deal with a mix of Nyx and turrets, just don't let them come near you.

Destroy the last silvers hive and all small fish.

Not really difficult, just requires patience and care when you leave the Nyx to install turrets.
