EDF 6 / Earth Defense Force 6 - Things that are good or stellar

I do have a post about things in EDF 6 that suck, so it's only logical and correct that I have one with the opposite. Yes, there are many stellar things in 6. Pity they didn't end with these.

First, it's astonishing that they managed to make the game work so well on the PS4. Just consider that EDF 4.1 and 6 are both on the PS4, the difference between them is staggering (yes, if you think otherwise you really should do a head exam, thorough and urgent). Thank you for supporting the PS4 Sandlot, probably your best achievement in EDF 6.

Sadly however, many missions with a lot happening, and particularly DLC ones, will cry for  PS5 or a really good PC. That was predictable anyway.

The DLCs are very good, much better than on 5 and obviously 4.1. A few really good missions (with the usual turds) and some very interesting new enemy variations, some very impressive and needing a lot of thought on how to handle properly.

They do somewhat save the game from being EDF 5.5, so if you're felling cheated or disappointed by 6, there is stuff on the DLCs that will make the game shine.

The music is quite good and there are lots of variety. Even mission 147, the last one, has a different menu music from all the others, a nice touch. From electric guitar solos, to shoot'em like tunes. Great improvement over previous games.

The backgrounds, particularly the alien pink ones are very good.

Good and clever new maps. The new future city map, when it's not in ruins is pretty awesome. The new mountains map with the bridge is also pretty good.

Sandlot did use a lot of strong colors on maps and backgrounds. Even on enemies. Pink enemies. Pink background. Electric green attacks. Blue attacks. It makes the game look fantastic, and it's so rare because most games use bland color palettes. They could explore this more, like Alienation did which was a visually stunning game.

If we exclude the stupid and boring new overpowered enemy ( Siren / Glaucus ), new enemies are interesting, varied and some pretty clever. Krulls and Krakens are particularly well-conceived. Even the seemingly easy at-first Haze and always crappy Nakers are nice.

Some of the DLC evolutions of enemies are even better. DLC Krulls, Drones, Bees and Spiders are great.

Unlike EDF 5, the game now remembers which mission you had chosen last if you return to the main menu. On 5 it would always return to the last one you played which was beyond stupid (do these guys really play their game ?!?!?!?!).

The damage numbers shown on the screen are a REALLY STELLAR idea. Why this wasn't done before, baffles me. Likely only important for nuts like me...

Showing the weapons out of the mission limits in yellow is another GREAT idea. Again, why this wasn't done before too, baffles me.

On many boring scripted missions with an intro you can "skip" it by restarting. But why not have a setting to skip them altogether.

The improvements to Ranger are amazing. Sandlot REALLY wants it to be the best class, since it's the only one most people will play. This has sadly a downside, the AR's crapping...

(Have they even thought that this will precisely make people not try the other classes? I doubt...)

The biggest problem of EDF is Sandlot's either lack of vision, or lack of interest in making the game move in a clear direction. There's a really good game hidden behind the initial dumb shooter face, which is what 99% of the players see. But sadly they are strongly focused on the dumb part of things, which quickly gets tiring for most people.
